It Comes To An End

Today is was our last day of classes. And I couldn't be happier. Of course, we still got a few finals and such after that but still, last day of classes for my first year of college. Its a big deal. Its amazing how fast time flies. Like really really flies. Its crazy. Feels like yesterday me and my friends were all worried about getting through our first year of college. And now, its here. Its weird cause its feels like just yesterday I was in high school yet it all seems so far away, you know. So much has changed in a year. I'm not gonna say I feel like a whole different person cause I don't, but I do have a whole new look at college than I did before. To be honest, I was extremely worried about starting college. Like kinda freaked out.I wasn't going to any of my friends with me which sucked (and still does) and I was worried about how tough the work would be. Now that I've made it through freshman year (almost, still gotta take finals), its nothing like I thought it would be. To be honest, its just like high school but with more freedom, which is good. College is like high school but better. The work isnt as tough as I though it would be. I mean, its actually pretty decent. I dont know if its just St. Johns, since I've obviously never been to another school, or if every college is like that. The work is nothing like I imagined it to be. I mean, we do get alot of work and stuff, much more than I ever did in high school but....I dont know, I guess I just expected to be up long hours and crying myself to sleep every night. I'm very glad thats not the case though. College is actually pretty decent. I don't love it (because ew, who loves school) but I dont hate it either. I am glad the year is coming to an end. I may like college but there's nothing I like more than summer vacation. No more school, no more work, no more nothing. And I couldn't be happier.

BTW, I'm kinda sad this is my final blog for the class. This thing did get on my nerves at times but I'm still kinda sad to see it go. It started out as nothing and I watched it grow week and after week. Its like my baby. Maybe I should continue writing in this thing but just make it more personal, you know...at least now I wont be worried about a due date or making sure I have a certain number of posts by that Sunday. Ah well, we'll see...

Hope you and your wife and Lucy have an awesome summer, Professor Farley! good grade plz?

Chocolate and Banana

The other day my brother made me a banana milkshake (he's 12 and yes, he makes me milkshakes) and he made himself a chocolate and banana milkshake. Seeing him drink that reminded me of a very funny story that happened a few years ago. I'm gonna share it with you because it is just full of lolz.

So its summer 2005. My family and I are back in our home country (Palestine, you know, the Middle East) and we're eating at this pretty fancy hotel. We were all having fun, enjoying our meal and such, you know the good stuff. So its time for desert. My parents order something I don't remember, I order a chocolate milkshake, my 10 yr old brother, Adam, orders a chocolate milkshake and my 12 yr old brother, Omar, orders a chocolate milkshake. Then you have my 17 yr old brother, Osama (you know, the one thats always leaving the not-so-nice comments on my blog) ,who had to be weird and ask for a chocolate and vanilla milkshake. Here's how it goes down; he asks the waiter if its possible if he could mix chocolate and vanilla in a milkshake. The waiter repeats it and says "sure". After he leaves, I realize the waiter said "chocolate and banana" instead of "chocolate and vanilla". I tell my brother that he thinks you want a chocolate and banana milkshake and of course my brother's all, "Noo, he said chocolate and vanilla". I'm all "No, he didn't, he's gonna bring you chocolate and banana". He's still all "No, he's not" and I'm still all "Osama, yes he is".

So now the waiter comes back with 4 chocolate looking milkshakes on his tray. He puts all of ours in front of us and we take a sip. My brother takes a sip and he's all, "It taste like banana!" Of course I was right (as usual), the guy gave my brother a chocolate and banana milkshake instead of chocolate and vanilla and he's now all disappointed. The story doesn't end there though. At the same time, my father took a sip of Omar's (you know, the one who makes me milkshakes) chocolate milkshake and Omar made it a big deal. Now Omar hates when you touch anything thats his if you don't ask first. Especially food. He is extremely stubborn and hard-headed that he'll cry and make a big scene if he doesn't get what he wants. Thats exactly what he did. So now Osama's all "Oh, you can switch with me. I didn't even touch it". Omar gave in and took it thinking its plain chocolate. Osama's all happy that he got his nice plain, no banana, chocolate milkshake. Of course, Omar starts drinking his new milkshake and what does he say but "this taste like banana". Osama and I are bursting out laughing and Omar is all confused and upset. LOL. It was a great moment. Thinking about it now I can't remember who actually drank the chocolate and banana milkshake. Oh well, thinking about that story still makes me laugh to this day. Its a classic.

Whats funny is Omar didn't even remember it until I told him about it a few days ago when he was making his chocolate and banana milkshake. He seemed to be enjoying it now, I don't understand why he wasn't thrilled about it then.

In The Heights

Before hearing anything about In the Heights, I really did not know what to expect from it. Since I heard it was a musical, I thought I wouldn’t like the play too much, but I was wrong. My expectations were well exceeded, as the play’s music, plot and acting were amazing, I guess that’s why it was on Broadway. The star of the play, who also wrote the play, was Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays Usnavi, a Dominican bodega owner who is a part of a community that is like no other. Besides owning the bodega, he also takes care of his little cousin Sonny, played by Robin de Jesus. Usnavi’s character is a very well scripted character and Miranda makes the character even better. His energy in his raps is very high and gets the audience really wrapped (no pun intended) up in the raps. Overall I thought this was a very well acted out play, as the characters really showed a close Latino community. The portrayal of characters were so convincing it brought back memories for me of the neighborhood I went to school in for 10 years where it consisted of mostly Hispanics. It really felt like I was watching a real street corner where people were coming together. All the actors’ energy, ethnic backgrounds and acting abilities really brought to life Washington Heights on Broadway.

FOUR!

We're down to four contestants remaining on American Idol. I must say, I am a little surprised by this final four. What the heck, I'm a lot surprised. Syesha shouldn't be there. And neither should Jason. Syesha should have been gone a looong time ago. Its not she has a bad voice because she definitely doesn't and its not that I don't like her personality because she does seem nice and not annoying but its just she should have left when it was between her and Michael. I'm still bitter as you can tell. Jason is...I don't know, he's Jason. I like Jason you know, he always seems so happy and never has a frown on his face. He's very relaxed and take everything in stride. He makes it easy to like him...as a person. The thing about Jason is he almost seems like he doesn't really care if he's voted off. Like he's just doing this for the heck of it and could care less if he wins. Maybe he just knows he doesn't have a chance? Anyway I'm really surprised he actually made it to the final four. He seems like a likable guy and all but as far as his music goes... he kinda sounds the same every week. I must admit, he kinda bores me. Nothing he sings really catches my attention. I don't know what got him to where he is. Maybe its cause he's pretty? Girls like pretty.

So now for the not-so-surprising. Yep, you guessed it, Cook and Archuleta. The two Davids! I think its pretty obvious that its gonna be a Cook/Archuleta finale. Everybody predicted Archuleta in the finale from way back in the top 24. And once David Cook began to shine during top 12, we knew he'd be joining. As for me, I'm team Cook. I've been rooting for Michael and Cook since the top 12 and since Michael has been gone (grrr..) , I was all for Cook. I lovelovelove his performance every week. Download them and everything. As for Archuleta...I like the kid (I call him a kid when he's like..my age), he has an amazing voice and I liked some of his performances. For some reason, he always makes me laugh. And he doesn't even have to do anything. He could just stand there and smile and I'd laugh. Sooo anyway, I'd be happy with a Cook/Archuleta finale with David Cook winning it all. And I think thats how its going to turn out.

P.S. I was so focused on getting all my blogs done I forgot all about American Idol today! That, like, never happens.

OMG, Its Gossip Girl.

So lately, I've been pretty obsessed with the show "Gossip Girl". I know, just what I need more TV, but I can't help myself. These things help me get through the week, gives me something to look forward to, you can say. So anyway, Gossip Girl, yes I love it. Such an awesome show. The show chronicles the lives of the exclusive and complicated vicious circle of New York's Upper East Side. The young, rich, and privileged teens attend the most elite of private schools, while dealing teen issues. Whats funny about the show is that it actually revolves around a blog. The show is narrated by an anonymous blogger, "Gossip Girl", who runs a blog about her fellow Upper East Siders and feeds them the latest gossip. The whole school tunes into gossip girl to find out the latest gossip about their fellow Upper East Siders. The show is truly addictive with its tangle of jealousy, loyalty, confusion and general teen angst. Some will be surprised to learn the the series is actually based a book series written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Some say that the show doesn't live up to the books but since I have never read the books, I really can't compare. For me, the show is truly one of the best on television to date. Its a modern take on the ultimate teen drama. Everyone should watch this show. Everyone.

This is article in New York magazine that I highly recommend reading.

I learned A Lesson...

It started out as a wonderful day (well, as wonderful as it could be while you’re in school). I went to math class, did some math problems and was out early. Then I went to English class and I was done for the day. I get in my car, driving down the highway enjoying the weather with my windows down and music loud. A typical Friday morning, except what was not so typical was when I saw a red and white piece of paper flapping on my windshield. I get out of the car on a red light and what is it but a $50 fine for failing to display my parking permit!

In my explanation of my typical Friday morning, I kinda maybe sorta forgot to mention that I didn’t take my car to school that morning. The Land Rover was parked behind my car in the driveway so I decided to take it instead since I didn’t feel like moving the Land Rover then moving my car then moving the Land Rover back. Plus, I really like driving the Land Rover so any chance I get to take it, I will. Of course, I forgot to take the parking permit thingy out of my car and put in the Land Rover. I really didn’t think it was a big deal since I’ve taken the Land Rover plenty of times without the parking permit thingy before and I’ve never gotten a ticket. Well, this time I did.

I know it’s completely my fault. And I was ready to accept it and pay. But, since my father is the one that’ll be paying (I have no money and no job), he, not so much. I kinda told him about it once I saw him because I didn’t want to keep worrying about it. He, of course, told me not to pay and to go complain (it’s what he does best, getting out of paying for something I mean). So I did. I told them my car was in the shop with the parking permit in it and I didn’t have a choice (Not true, but I highly doubt anyone from public safety is reading). It didn’t work. (I guess I don’t have my father’s skills just yet). Luckily, my father was on a VERY good mood when I told him they wouldn’t take it back. He just said, “you gotta do what’cha gotta do.” Weird turn around from when I first told him he had to pay $50 bucks. Ah, well, I guess this teaches me a lesson. Always remember to take the parking permit out of the car when I take the Land Rover.

BTW, I still didn’t pay it and It’s been a week.

Creative Non-fiction

So I realized I never posted my definition of creative non-fiction ....and I need more blog posts so here is it...

Creative non-fiction can be described in several different ways. Many people have come up with an idea of what defines Creative Nonfiction. According to Wikipedia, “Creative Nonfiction is a genre of writing which uses literary styles and techniques to create factually accurate narratives.”

Forms of Creative non-fiction can include personal essays, memoir, biography, and literary journalism. There are several characteristics that describe creative nonfiction. It must be factually accurate, and written with attention to literary style and technique. It presents useful, interesting facts based on exhaustive research. It presents details that help the reader understand the main point and the facts come alive through narration and setting. Creative Nonfiction shows rather than tells. Lee Gutkind, a professor in the Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh, states, “Ultimately, the primary goal of the creative nonfiction writer is to communicate information, just like a reporter, but to shape it in a way that reads like fiction.”

Creative Nonfiction can also be considered literary journalism. Bruce Dobler's Creative Nonfiction Compendium states that Creative Nonfiction is that branch of writing that can alternatively be known as "literary journalism" or the "literature of fact.” This is because it employs literary techniques and artistic vision to report on actual persons and events. Lee Gutkind describes that “the word “creative” refers simply to the use of literary craft in presenting nonfiction—that is, factually accurate prose about real people and events—in a compelling, vivid manner.” In other words, creative nonfiction writers do not make things up; they make ideas and information that already exist more interesting and more accessible.

John Mcphee’s The Curve of Binding Energy and Herbert Asbury All Around the Town are both good example of Creative Nonfiction. The Curve of Binding Energy is about the real life story of theoretical physicist Theodore B. Taylor. McPhee provides facts about nuclear weapons as well as information about safeguards; however he also incorporates a creative side to the book. John McPhee was able to create a strong Creative Nonfiction work by his research and creativity. All Around the Town in another literary work that provides real life events in combination with a creative element. Herbert Asbury tells various stories of events that occurred in New York City history. Like McPhee, he is provides researched information as well as detailed literacy techniques. He describes the real life events in his book with such detail the reader is able to picture the events in their minds. His creativity and factual information creates an interesting literacy work.

In conclusion, even though there is no one single definition that defines Creative Nonfiction, we can all agree that Creative Nonfiction combines factual information with a creative twist. I think Creative Nonfiction is an enjoyable and interesting genre of writing. It gives writers the opportunity to portray real life experiences while adding their own literary techniques to the story. As Lee Gutkind said, “It offers flexibility and freedom while adhering to the basic tenets of reportage. In creative nonfiction, writers can be poetic and journalistic simultaneously.”

The Worst Elimination EVER.

Michael John's was eliminated from American Idol yesterday. And I am NOT happy. Worst Elimination EVER. The elimination came as a shock everyone, including the judges. Every year American Idol has their shocking elimination and this is season it was Michael. I can't help but think that American Idol did this on purpose. They needed something to get people talking and they used him. I can't see how he got the lowest number of votes (confession: I didn't vote). He was never in the bottom three while Kristy has been there every week (almost). Sure, Simon wasn't crazy about his rendition of Aerosmith's "Dream On" calling a bad song choice but still, I don't think it mattered. Michael has a lot of fans. I loved his version of "Dream on"and I think alot of people could agree with me. 8th place is not good for my favorite. Not good at all. Sure maybe, he wasn't gonna win (Archuleta has it in the bag) but I was at least hoping for 5th maybe 4th. Heck, I thought he would make the top 3. Point is, I doubt he got the lowest number of votes. I'm starting to think this is all rigged. I'm just so disappointed. Oh and the worst part of the night: After Ryan says Michael has the lowest number of votes, he mention how last year no one got eliminated because of Idol Gives Back but then goes on to say, "Not this year. Michael, you are going home." Way to bring our hopes up and then crush it again, Ryan. *sigh* I almost don't feel like watching anymore (keyword: almost). Yeah, I still like David Cook but it won't feel the same anymore. I'm bitter. Whatever, Michael, you're gonna go on to do great things and you don't need to win American Idol for that. I'm looking forward to listening to anything that has your name on it in the future.

Check out Michael's shocking elimination and his awesome final performance of "Dream on" (I don't know why I keep torturing myself by watching it over and over).

With Michael's elimination, I forgot all about Jordin Sparks's performance of "No Air" with Chris Brown. So good. She's awesome. I love her.<3

OMG. YAY.

OMG. I have a 100 views. How exciting is that?! Haha. That was actually pretty quick. I know most of the view are probably from me and my brother but still, its pretty cool. I keep checking on my blog like somehow its gonna magically change from the last time I looked at it. I know there's probably a way that you can get it to not count your own views and I keep saying I want to to do it but as I've mentioned before, procrastination is what I do best. My brother also counts for a lot of the views because he's always checking if I updated my blog so he can make some not-so-nice comments. Usually he is disappointed because I've been lacking on the updates lately. Regardless, I still think it's pretty exciting to see the number 100 on my page and I hope to make it to 200 someday. I know this is a pretty short blog but I just wanted to share my excitement somewhere. Update soon. (hopefully) =)

I wish I could Change

I happen to be reading another blog and I read something I related with completely. It was about procrastination. If somebody were to ask me what I do best at, I would tell them I am #1 at procrastinating. Its not a good thing, I know, but I can't help it. I do it ALL the time. Heck, I'm procrastinating right now (I open up word to start my research paper and write my name and date. And now, I'm here, writing a blog about procrastination.) Its really one of my worst habits. But the reason I procrastinate all the time is because I can't stay focused on anything that bores me. I'd rather be doing something entertaining than write a research paper. I constantly tell myself I have plenty of time to do something I'm suppose to so I always leave it to the last minute. I even revolve my homework time around my TV schedule. Doing homework online is also the worst thing for me to do. I always end up on some random site just to avoid doing homework. Its really sad but I guess thats just the way I am. Its hard for me to focus on something when knowing I could be doing something better or funner. I wish I could change. I wish I could be one of those people who like to get things done early. Really I do. Like the other blog said, there should be a medication for procrastination. I'd need a whole lot of it.

The Yankees are on the Verge of Something Wonderful

Yesterday, the Yankees played their final Opening Night at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees played an excellent game yesterday, pulling in a win to start off the beginning of (what I hope to be) a wonderful season. With 2-3 victory over the Blue Jays, Melky Cebrara was the star of the game. He homered against Blue Jays starter Roy Halladay in the sixth to tie the game, for which the crowd summoned for a curtain call. The Yankees took the lead in the seventh against Halladay when, with the bases loaded, Alex Rodriguez crossed the plate with the go-ahead run on the fielder's choice. Melky also had two outstanding plays during the game. He pounded against the wall with a leap on Lyle Overbay's deep drive in right-center field and a batter latter, made a diving catch in left-center field on Aaron Hill's low liner. Ching Ming Wang pitched a good game, limiting Toronto to two runs and six hits over seven innings before handing over the ball to Joba Chamberlain for the eighth inning. Chamberlain allowed the tying run to get as close as second base before he recorded two strikeouts to end the frame. Then , of course, you have Rivera come in to do what Rivera does best. He retired the side in the ninth recording the final out on a Scutaro groundout to second base.

This game was also the beginning of a new era. Joe Girardi managed the Yankees to a win in his first game as Yankee manager, the position previously held for 12 seasons by Joe Torre. Mariano Rivera did the honors of handing the ball to his new manager for safe-keeping. The game had everything a winning team should be playing, "well-pitched baseball at the beginning, timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, athletic and reliable defense, and lights-out from the back end of the bullpen." As Derek Jeter said after the game, "If we keep it like that, I'm sure we'll win a lot." And I agree. The Yankees are on the Verge of Something Wonderful.

We're down to nine!

Two weeks ago on American Idol we said goodbye to Amanda Overmeyer. And I couldn't be happier. She definitely deserved to go that week. Actually, I think she should have gone along time ago. She sounds the same every week and I never understood why the judges actually thought she was good. Well, anyway, America finally got it right and now she's gone.

Last week, Chikeze was eliminated. I thought Kristy Lee Cook should have definelty gone instead of him. I mean, she was in the bottom three every week. Why wont she leave already. I actually liked Chikeze. He kinda grew on me over the weeks. I thought his voice was pretty good and he had lots of personality. I don't think the judges like him very much (mostly simon) but I disagree with them. My favorite performance by him was the week he sang that Beatles song (can't remember the name right now and too lazy to look it up) where he used the harmonica. The judges didn't like it very much, but that was probably my favorite thing he ever sang. Oh well, now he's gone and I've moved on.

This week the top 9 will be singing Dolly Parton songs. I think thats kinda an odd choice of a theme. I wish they could sing more recent songs. I hope they have a 90's decade or something. That would be nice. Over the weeks, I have picked my favorites. Micheal Johns and David Cook are the ones that keep me the most interested in watching. I download each of there studio songs each week. I think they'll both make it far too. At least, I hope. For the girls, I'll say Brooke White is my favorite. She's the only one I don't find boring out of them. Okay so anyway, Yeah Dolly Parton week today! We'll see who rocks and who blows. I'll be back with the results after Wednesday.

Opening Day!

Well yesterday was opening day of the Major League Baseball season. Opening Day is one of the best days of the year. After a grueling and boring winter baseball is finally back and I’m excited. I finally get to see all the acquisitions play on their new teams and young players get a shot in the Major leagues. I’m a Yankees fan, but there game got canceled so I was hooked to all the other games that were on ESPN and all the other sport networks. The thing I was amazed the most was Johan Santana’s debut with the Mets. He pitched a gem of a game and I was really impressed and I think he’ll probably be the NL CY Young award winner. He only gave up 2 runs and 3 hits in 7 innings. The Mets offense was also very impressive as David Wright hit a bases clearing double in the 4th inning, which proved to be big in winning the game 7-2. Other games that were really good was the brewers cubs game, where their big acquisition Kosuke Fukudome hit a game tying 3-run homerun but they still lost the game. And in the night the best pitching match up of the day took place when Jake Peavy and Roy Oswalt faced off. The reining Cy Young award won the face-off 4-0. That’s the great thing about opening day you have the best pitching match ups, because its 1 vs. 1. I hope for a great baseball season and I hope all of you guys enjoy it.

Things I Find Annoying....

You know how you find lots of things annoying and you always say you're gonna make a list one day...just me? Okay. Well here's my list of things I find annoying...

1- Traffic

2- Driving behind city buses, trucks and school buses

3- People with really short finger nails

4- People who beep the horn like a crazy person for no apparent reason. Really, Is beeping the horn gonna make you go any faster?!

5- Vegetarians

6- School

7- People who misspell words on AIM on purpose. I mean, really, why spell "like" "lyke". Its the same amount of letters. Makes no sense. Oh and when they use numbers as letters like instead of "numbers", it'll be "numb3rs". Absolutely useless.

8- When you see something everyday in the same spot and when you finally need it, you can't find it.

9- When your in the mood for something like really really bad and its nowhere to be found in the house.

10- Black and White movies

11- School

12- Teachers who act like we have no other class besides theirs (not you, professor :)

13- Watching baseball in non-HD. Actually watching anything in non-HD for that matter.

14- Doing the dishes. This should have been number one.

15- Girls who wear way too much make-up

16- Radio stations that play the same song over and over. Take notes, Z100. I think we heard Chris Brown's "With you" the first bajillion times you played it.

17- School

18- Picking up the phone and not knowing who it is.

19- When your blog doesn't look the way you want it to. (Notice how in some paragraphs, the sentences are closer together and in others, theres space...WHY?! )

20 - Boring books *cough*TheCurveofBindingEnergy*cough*

21 - Slow internet

22 -Internet explorer. Go get firefox!

23- Did I mention school?

Well, that was longer than I expected. I could probably go on and on but really, who has the time?

7 Months Later...

The day that changed my life (ok, not really but whatever) was September 6, 2007. It started out as a normal day. I was backing out of the driveway to go school, just like every other day of the week. Except when I'm actually out of the driveway I see this tiny thing at the bottom of my driveway. I knew whatever it was it was alive but I wasn't sure exactly what it was. So I drive my car closer to this "thing" and what do I see but a tiny tiny tiny(did I mention tiny?) kitten curled up into a ball. I really wanted to bring it into the house but I didn't have time to get out of the car and bring it in since I was already late to class (stupid class >:-( . So I called my house and told my mom to bring it in the house. Now my mom hates cats (actually she hates all animals. Mean, I know..) but she agreed because it was my little brothers birthday and she wanted to surprise him with a cat in the house. We said were going to feed him for a few days and then let him go.

It’s now been 7 months and we still have him.

I promised myself that I would never have another pet after my disappointing pet rabbit (let’s not talk about that), But really, this all happened out of nowhere. When we first found him, I was afraid to touch him. I used to be scared of cats before him. I remember even wearing gloves when I would (if I did at all) touch him (stop laughing!). I also never got how people can become so attached to an animal before. I used to think these people were just lonely and needed animals for friends. It’s like, it’s just an animal, it doesn't have feelings and emotions.

Boy, have things changed.

His name is Izzy (shut up, it is a boys name!) and he’s my little baby. I don’t know when I became so emotionally attached to him. I never thought I’d care so much about an animal. But I do. Yeah sure, I don’t feed him (my brother does) or clean his litter box (uh..ew) but I really do care a lot about him. My father always says he wishes we never kept him because of how attached my brothers and I have become to him (my brother would never admit but he really does care about him). And even though he does a whole lot of things that get on my nerves, like when he scratches me or bites me or when he runs to the door when I’m leaving the house so he can run outside or…or…OR..when he gets his butt stuck under the huge shelf all because he wants a tiny piece of plastic and starts screaming and making weird noises like some insane person and I panic cause I have no idea what to do (ok, that happened once)... but still, he makes it hard to hate him. Because then he’ll sit on my lap whenever I’m on the computer or he’ll rub himself on me in the morning or look at me with those pretty eyes. Really, it’s hard. Sometimes I wish he was ugly because that’ll definitely make things a little easier. My father always threatens that we’re gonna wake up one day and he wont be there but I know he doesn’t mean it. He claims he doesn’t like him but really, he does. I mean, he spent lots of money to get him neutered. That’s love.

So yeah, I love my cat and there’s nothing I can do about it. I want him to stay with us for a really long time but sadly my parents say we must let him out once summer hits. But that’s okay cause I know he’ll still be around the house. He won’t go too far away. I’ll still see him all the time. Right?...right?!.....RIGHT?!?!

A National Treasure

As I was flipping through the channels I stumbled across the movie National Treasure. I didn’t think it was that good of a movie, especially since Nicholas Cage was in it, but I was wrong. The movie was actually really good. The plot kept me thinking and was actually a very intelligent movie. It was similar to the hit TV show House, where you are trying to solve a mystery and keep guessing along with the characters and you never know the end result until it actually happens.

The movie is about a guy named Ben Gates and his sidekick Riley, who are after a mythical treasure. This treasure was hidden by our founding fathers and they must go from clue to clue to find the treasure. In the beginning they realize they need to get the Declaration of Independence because there is a “treasure map” on the back of it. After much conflict Ben ends up with the Declaration of independence and finds a cipher, on the back of it that leads him to another clue in the Philadelphia museum. After a series of clues in Philadelphia, Ben ends up with a clue that leads him to Wall St. and Broadway. From there he gets into a lot of trouble and in the end…. Well you got to find out for yourself. They made a sequel to the movie, but that’s for another blog entry, so stay tuned

Its Idol Time!

The top 24 contestants of this year's American Idol was finally revealed on Wednesday night. Let me start by saying how disappointed I am that this year's Hollywood week was so short. They aired an hour of them singing in all of Hollywood, not to mention the lack of group performances. They spent weeks on the auditions! Yes, I know a lot people say its their favorite part and yes, I do like the auditions. But c'mon, at least show a good part of Hollywood week. And then of course they have their hour long "chair" show which is incredibly pointless. Anyway, enough ranting, on to the top 24 contestants of Season 7 American Idol.

Lets start with the good, there were a couple of the contestants that made it who really impressed me. David Archuleta was one of the boys who really blew me away. When I first saw him in the auditions, I thought he was pretty good. But after seeing him sing "Heaven" in Hollywood, I was sold. Not to mention, He's Only 16?!?! Talented boy and I'm glad he made it. Another boy that stood out to me was Micheal Johns who has an amazing voice and could possible win this thing despite being Australlian (Hello! American Idol?). Other boys I thought were pretty okay were David Cook and David Hernandez (whats with the Davids?!). Oh and Chikezie Eze cause who can't love a guy with a name like that. There's also Danny Noriega who I think has an okay voice but kinda reminds me of Sanjaya. Then there's the contestants who I really know nothing about cause of the incredibly short Hollywood week, Luke Menard who kinda looks like Orlando Bloom, Colton Berry, Jason Yeager, Garrett Haley, and Jason Castro (don't think I even heard them talk). Oh and there's Robbie Carrico who supposedly dated Britney once (Yes, Britney Spears!).

Now there's the girls. This is going to be quick since most of the girls bore me. Carly Smithson I think is one girl that stands out in the crowd. She has a good voice and I think will make it far in the competition because the judges love her. I'm not really a big fan of her though. She has already had an album out but since it was a big flop, this is her second chance. FYI Carly, this is a competiton for undiscovered talent. You've already been discovered and you failed! Moving on ... you have Ramiele Malubay, Syesha Mercado, Joanne Borgella who can really sing but dont really stand out to me. Amanda Overmyer is the rockstar nurse who the judges love but her voice just doesnt do it for me (she sounds the same everytime she sings!) I was hoping she didnt make the Top 24 but what do I know. Brooke White seems like a sweet girl and was the only one who I enjoyed watching on stage. Kristy Lee Cook has a fairly decent voice but an annoying personality (no, its not just a singing competition). Asia'h Epperson is the girl who's father passed away right before her audition, good voice and will probably make it far. Kady Malloy, I only remember her impressions from her audition. And then of course you have the people I've never even heard of before, Alexandrea Lushington, Alaina Whitaker, and Amy Davis.

And there you have it, your Top 24 contestants of American Idol Season 7!

A Sad Day ...

Valentines Day 2008 was a tragic day at Northen Illinois University. A gunman opened fire with a shotgun and two handguns killing five students and wounding over a dozen before taking his own life. The gunman went a rampage leading to a total of 22 casualties. Police have identified the gunman as 27 year old former student Stephen Kazmierczak and became errotic after he stopped taking his medication.

When I hear things like this happen, it definelty scares me. I can't help but worry something like this will happen at St. Johns. I never understood how universities can let something like this happen, but then I realized people who commit such hostile acts are obviously sick. No person in their right mind would do such things. I think colleges and universities should be more aware of people who need help. They should also enforce more security on college campuses. I know there's only so much security a school can have, but its at least one thing they can do to prevent shootings on college campuses. My thoughts and prayer are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones on this tragic day.
Kinda feel bad talking about this when the title of my blog is "On The Verge Of Something Wonderful"

Is It Over?!

Hollywood's long writers strike could be coming to end. On Saturday, February 10th, union leaders representing 12,000 movie and television writers said they had reached a tentative three-year deal with production companies. The three month long strike began on November 5th has not officially ended but the New York meeting on Saturday was full of optimism. It is expected the strike be over as soon as Monday morning. The end of the strike means great news for producers. The strike has been the longest writers strike since 1988 causing tens of thousands people to lose their jobs. The strike effected a number of TV shows like "Grey's anatomy" and "CSI" forcing networks to air reruns. There has also been an increase in reality shows since they don't require scripts. The end of the strike would also be great news to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who are planning for Oscar night on February 24th. Late night talk shows like, "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" would immediately benefit from the end of the strike. Other TV series might take 2 week to return to production. However, weaker shows might not return at all.

For me, I couldn't be more thrilled that the strike is about to come to an end. I am an avid TV watcher so this strike ending is a dream come true for me. Plenty of the shows I watch were effected by the strike. I was stuck watching reruns of my favorite shows every week. When the writers strike first began back in November, I didn't quite understand what it meant. I hadn't thought it would last as long as it did. Also, before the writers strike, I never really thought of how important the writers jobs were. Now that it is about to end, I certainly appreciate their jobs much more now. I really hope they never go on strike ever again!

The Reigning Champ!

Enough Britney! Hello Jordin! The reigning American Idol champion Jordin Sparks has released her self-titled album, 'Jordin Sparks', just a few months ago. The seventeen year old (now eighteen) graced the Idol stage as the youngest American Idol winner to date. Her debut album is considered a mix of hip-hop and R&B and varies from powerful ballads to some up-tempo songs. Songs like 'Permanent Monday' and 'Now you Tell Me' really show her power house voice while songs like 'Shy Boy' and 'Young and In Love' show a funkier side to her voice. Her hit single, 'Tattoo', is soaring up the music charts and hitting the radios everywhere. Jordin also teamed up with superstar Chris Brown for a ballad duet 'No Air' which has also been blowing up on radio stations all across America. Her recent super bowl appearance in her hometown of Glendale, Arizona blew viewers away with her memorable rendition of the nation anthem.

I have been a fan of Jordin Sparks ever since the very beginning. She caught my eye when she first auditioned in front of Randy, Paula, and Simon in Seattle, Washington. Even though she wasn't who I was placing my votes for every week in the competition (I'm a big Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson fan), she has quickly become one of my favorite artist to come out of American Idol and her album has become a fast favorite. Not only does Jordin Sparks have a unstoppable voice but her bubbly personality and an appealing enthusiasm about getting to be the center of attention make you can't help but like her. I feel that Jordin is such a positive role model to younger girls today. Even though she might be a few months younger than I am, I certainly look up to her. Everyone should go out and buy this album! You won't be dissappointed. (oh and since you're there anyway, pick up Blake Lewis's album too!=)

You Want A Piece Of Me?

Britney Spears was released from UCLA Medical Center wednsday ealier than intended. She was taken to the Medical Center on January 31st and was held under a 72-hour psychiatric hold, which was extended to 14 days. She was releases seven days ealier than expected. As soon as she was released from the hospital, paparazzi, of course, swarmed her vehicle. News helicopters even followed her to the hotel.

My solution for Britney Spears: Get as far away from Los Angles as possible!! Seriously, I don't understand why that girl is still hanging around L.A. She wants the paprazzi to leave her alone, then do your part and get away from them. Sometimes I think Britney actually wants the Paparazzi to follow her. I wonder if she actually calls the paparazzi and tells them where exactly she is going to be at what time. Instead of getting away from them, she is actually friending them. Yes, I admit, I do feel bad for her. But I feel like she is not really trying to get her life together. I think she should move somewhere far far away for a while. Yeah, sure, maybe paparazzi will follow her there. But certaintly it wont be as bad as it is now. Britney Spears has took her shot at the media and paparazzi with her new single, "Piece of Me" before. Lyrics include, "I’m Miss American Dream since I was 17, Don’t matter if I step on the scene Or sneak away to the Philippines They still gon put pictures of my derrière in the magazine." Britney please, do us all a favor, and Get Out Of Los Angeles!

Super Bowl Sunday!

So, what better way to start off my blog than by talking about the Giants in the super bowl, since they are on the verge of something wonderful. They are in the super bowl for the first since 2000 when they lost to the Baltimore Ravens. The Giants are going to play the New England Patriots, who are undefeated. It is going to be a tough game for the giants and they are 12 point underdogs (even though I don't support betting on the game). To get here the Giants have won 10 straight road games, which is really hard to do, so they are on a roll. But the Patriots have one 18 games in a row during the whole season, the first time in football history. Some say that this Patriots team is the best ever, but this game will determine everything. During the season the Patriots set many records, like the most points scored in a season, most touchdowns thrown by a quaterback (Tom Brady) and most touchdown receptions by a receiver (Randy Moss). But the Giants are on the verge of possibly defeating the greatest team in NFL history and completing the greatest upset in sports history. It may seem like I know a lot about football, but I really don't, but over the past two weeks this is all they been talking about on all these sports shows my brother watches.

I am excited to watch the game even though I'm not a big foootball fan. I like to watch the commercials and if the half time show is any good I like to watch that. This game is so big, and people have been talking about it for two weeks, I'm sort of getting sick of the game itself. I must have seen that video of Tom Brady walking around the city with that boot thing on over a hundred times. My brother has been telling me everything about this game and really I just want the Giants to win. I hope it's exciting like their last game against the Packers, that was exciting. Other than that the super bowl is considered like a holiday. Their pregame show is 4 hours long!
